EVERS & GAVERS
The Lee County Coroner’s Office is in both the EVERS (Alabama) and GAVERS (Georgia) electronic death certificate systems.
We typically complete death certificates within 48 hours of them being assigned to us. If it has been more than 48 hours since you created the death certificate and it has not been signed, please contact us.
As you know, pending death certificates cost the same amount as final death certificates, but pending death certificates cannot be used for many things such as life insurance. Therefore, to cut down on confusion and unnecessary costs for families, we only issue pending death certificates when specifically requested and we ask that you fully explain the difference between a pending death certificate and a final death certificate to the family.
If you do not have access to EVERS for Alabama Death Certificates or GAVERS for Georgia Death Certificates, please contact a local funeral home and request assistance.
Current lead time for Autopsy Reports on cases performed by ADFS is about 90 days.
Current lead time for Toxicology Only Reports on cases performed by ADFS is about 45 days.
We have a list of known providers available below. However, families are free to use any provider they would like and are under no obligation to use a provider on this list.
If a family is having a private autopsy, please let us know as soon as possible.
Autopsy and Toxicology will delay the final death certificate being certified until the reports are ready. This includes private autopsies. If the family would like a pending death certificate while waiting on the reports, please let us know.
Unless there are unusual or extenuating circumstances, Hospice providers do not need to call us to report a hospice death.
Please fax your death report to 334-759-5969.
Hospice providers typically sign their own death certificates; however, if you need our assistance with a specific situation, please do not hesitate to call.
